Josef Hons (1907-2010) was a Czech railway engineer, professor and children's books author. This is perhaps his earliest work, with other known titles dating after 1958. He joined the Ministry of Transport in 1945, one year before this book was published and held various official titles for the National Railroad under the Protectorate. It is worth noting that this book was produced during the brief democracy window in Czechoslovakia after the second World War before the 1948 Communist coup, so while it bears stylistic resemblance to some Soviet children's books, and likely drew inspiration from them, it was not published in the era of direct Soviet influence on Czech publishing.
