A spectacular example of eccentric modernist book making from the little-known Portuguese educator and amateur printer Paulo de Cantos who lived from 1892 to 1979. A collection of aphorisms on religion and paganism. The book is almost a complete mirror of Espirito. The quotations are organised by theme in accordance with each branch of religion. As with several of his other books half the book is one way up and the other the opposite, so you can start at either end and meet in the middle. The book is also enlivened with his eccentric illustrations. Some minimal foxing and wear to the spine, but overall a fine copy.
