On the True and the False in the Decorative Arts. Lectures delivered at Marlborough House, June 1852
JONES, Owen. On the True and the False in the Decorative Arts. Lectures delivered at Marlborough House, June 1852. [2], 112 pp., some illustrations & diagrams through the text. Large 8vo, 245 x 157 mm., publisher's flexible cloth. London: [privately printed], 1863.
As the basis for these lectures Jones used art treasures in the Great Exhibition, purchased by the government and moved to Marlborough House, in which process he played a major part. The lectures range from pragmatic rules of colour and decoration to more abstruse principles of aesthetics and the lessons of cultural and national differences. A surprisingly scarce work.
