For more than a century Racinet's Costume Historique is still considered a standard work on the history of costume, much prized for the handsome chromolithographic plates. When it was published it was the most wide-ranging and incisive study of clothing ever attempted.
Le Costume Historique covers the history of costume, dress, and style from antiquity through the end of the 19th century, and remains, to this day, unique in its scope and detail. It was subsequently reissued in a smaller format. Two volumes with split hinges, internal contents fine. Sold as is. Complete sets of the orginal folio edition are now scarce.
