The work is comprised of Chinese phrases collected by one of the French Jesuit Missionaries in China. The Peking dialect is used throughout. The orthography of pronunciation is French. The Chinese title of the original manuscript is believed to be in the hand of Klaproth, while the French title is attributed to M. Thonnelier.
