This catalogue accompanies the first retrospective on Newman's work in three decades, originating at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, after which it will travel to the Tate Modern. The text surveys the breadth of his career from the New York School in the 1940s to minimalism and conceptualism in the 1960s. The archives of the Barnett Newman Foundation were available to the authors, and provide new scholarship on his life and work.
