MORISON, Stanley and Henry THOMAS. Andres Brun: Calligrapher of Saragossa. Some Account of his Life and Work. 32 pp. With 49 facsimile leaves printed in red and black. Folio, bound in original publisher's cloth, decorated to a Renaissance motif, t.e.g. Paris: [Officina Bodoni, Verona, for] Pegasus Press, 1929 [i.e. 1928].

Limited to 175 copies printed by Mardersteig for The Pegasus Press, Paris, in Janson type on Fabriano paper. Includes a 30 page account of Brun's life and work by Henry Thomas and Stanley Morison. Most significantly, this work reproduces in collotype a facsimile of the surviving text and plates of Brun's two exceptional writing books of 1583 and 1612. The originals are in Berlin's Kunstgewerbemuseum. Andres Brun (1552 - ca. 1620) was a calligrapher of exceptional skill who worked in Saragossa, Spain, the town which also produced "the father of Spanish calligraphers" Juan de Iciar. A fine copy.
