The first monograph in thirty years to be devoted to this immensely popular French sculptor (1861-1944) cited by Benezeit (1976) as "l'un des plus grands artistes de tous les temps et de tous les pays". Having studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Maillol was first associated the Nabis in the 1890s. He turned to sculpture in his late thirties, after working as a painter and tapestry designer. This monograph was published to coincide with the opening of the Musée Maillol in Paris, and provides a useful and informative overview of his entire career. Text in English.
