The author's Jansenist beliefs on the subject of salvation, as well as his criticism of the Jesuits among other controversial topics, make up this series of letters written by Pascal under the pseudonym Louis de Montalte. A highly popular work showcasing his well-developed wit, the book came to influence many important writers, including Rousseau and Voltaire. Dating from nearly a century after the Lettres were originally published, this copy comes in an elegant binding. Aside from a very small chip missing from the head end of the spine, this beautifully bound book is in fine condition.
