Serrano, Veronique. Un Fauve Chez Bonnard. MANGUIN et l'Exaltation de la Couleur. 160 pages, including 150 color plates. 4to, wraps. Milan, Silvana Editoriale, 2015.
Documenting a exhibition at the Musée Bonnard of nearly 70 paintings by the French painter Henri Manguin (1874-1949), who moved in the same artistic circles as Matisse, Marquet, Lebasque, and Bonnard. This beautifully illustrated catalogue highlights his portraits (many of his wife Jeanne) and his landscapes painted in the south of France. His work has often been overshadowed by that of Matisse and Derain; this show reveals a fauve colorist and painter of great subtlety and talent. Text in French and English.
