First American edition? The Dictionnaire was a lifelong project for Voltaire. It represents the culmination of his views on Christianity, God, morality and other subjects. This is American edition, which is presumably the first, is an early Catskill imprint; printing began there in 1792. Evans located no earlier American edition of this work. The Publisher's preliminary Advertisement notes "the great noise which the following work has made in foreign parts, on account of the author's freedom in regard to matters of religion." Some staining and wear, and front cover detached.
