HANS HOFMANN: Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings
Villiger, Suzi (ed). HANS HOFMANN: Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings. 1,280 pages with 1,072 color and b&w plates. 4to, cloth. London, Lund Humphries, 2014.
This impressive three-volume catalogue is a significant addition to the scholarship and understanding of Hofmann's huge contribution to twentieth-century art. The first volume is devoted to essays and supporting information: a chronology, bibliography, list of titles and general index. The catalogue raisonné itself features one or two paintings per page, with meticulously researched notations. The excellent color and production values compensate somewhat for the dearth of full-page illustrations.
