Pardo, Patrick and Robert Dean (eds). JOHN BALDESSARI Catalogue Raisonné. Volume Two: 1975-1986. 496 pages, including 500 color and 20 b&w plates. 4to, boards in slipcase. New Haven, Yale University Press, 2013.
This second volume focuses on an important period in Baldessari's career which sees him continuing his work in series and montages using photographs, film stills, and words. Hal Foster's introduction is heavy on the lit-speak, but at least there's not too much of it (7 pages). This is followed by a finely produced catalogue of full-page plates, chronology (1931 to 1986), Artist's Statements (very illuminating), exhibition history, and bibliography.
