PRUDHOMME, Louis. Dictionnaire des Individus envoyés à la mort judiciairement, révolutionnairement et contre-révolutionnairement pendant la Révolution, particulièrement sous le règne de la Convention Nationale... avec des gravures et des tableaux. Two volumes. lxxxviii, 496; , 516 pp. Illustrated with 2 folding plates and 5 folding tables. 8vo., bound in publisher's blue wrappers, entirely uncut. Preserved in two red cloth folding boxes. Paris: 1796.
A fine copy of this detailed document of the French Revolution which was compiled by the sometime librarian and journalist Louis Prudhomme. The two volumes, which are complete in themselves, were part of a a six volume work entitled l'Histoire générale et impartiale des erreurs, des fautes et des crimes commis pendant la Révolution française.
The work was seized by the police, and presumably very few copies survived. These two volumes comprise an alphabetical listing of several thousand people executed during the Revolution including such notables as the King and Queen, Danton and Robespierre. The entries mostly supply an age and occupation, the cause for the death sentence as well as its date. Occasional foxing, but generally a fine copy of a rare book. In original state of preservation.
