Kushner, Marilyn Satin, et al. The Armory Show at 100: Modernism and Revolution. 512 pp. with over 300 color and b&w illustrations. 4to, cloth. The New York Historical Society in association with Giles of London, 2013.
This retrospective, a tribute to the pivotal influence of the International Exhibition of Modern Art in 1913, will display about 100 works from the original show (out of 1400). The show-stopper of a catalogue is an education, and a welcome reminder of what a wide-ranging study can be in this day of streamlined museum publications. A glance at the table of contents informs the reader of the catalogue's breadth of inquiry, with essays by 26 art historians and critics on topics relating to the show, the art world as it existed at the time, and how it changed afterwards, both for artists and for buyers.
