Solfege de la Couleur

FER, Édouard. Solfège de la Couleur. Preface by Yves Le Grand. [viii], 28 pp. Illustrated with 15 plates of which one is double-page and all but one are coloured, plus two final leaves of coloured ads, and a "Tableau de Mélanges de Couleurs" by LeFranc inserted at front. 4to., 272 x 215 mm, spiral bound in original printed wrappers and protective mylar. Paris: Dunod, 1953.

First Edition, one of fifty copies. Fer was a respected painter whose fame is attested by facsimile notes from Guillaume Apollinaire and Paul Signac. The preface, by Le Grand, a professor at the National Museum of Natural History, suggests this book was Fer's contribution to a longstanding tradition of colour theory aimed at an audience of artists who may have never studied the topic formally.

Not in Birren.
