VON FALKE, OTTO / FALKE, OTTO VON / Pringsheim Collection

VON FALKE, OTTO. Italian Maiolica of the Pringsheim Collection. Translated from the original German into Italian and English. 3 volumes of over 1,000 pp. of heavy stock in all, with 500 hand-colored color plates and numerous other b&w photographs. Folios in richly designed slipcase, cloth. Ferrara, Belriguardo-Arte, 1994.
Edition strictly limited to 500 numbered copies.
A glorious three-volume survey on one of the most outstanding private collections of Italian Renaissance maiolica, formerly owned by the collector and connoisseur Albert Pringsheim. Forced to sell his collection in the 1930's, these pieces can now be found in museums and private collections all over the world. The first two volumes of the survey were published in 1914 and 1923, respectively; they have long been out of print. The third volume, which has been preserved at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, was prepared in proof by the author (probably around 1930) but was never printed. The text includes essays by noted ceramics experts Carmen Ravanelli Guidotti and Timothey Wilson.
