NEW YORK CENTRAL PARK. Thirteenth Annual Report of the Board of Commisoners of the Central Park for the Year ending December 31, 1869. 187 pp. Illustrated with 10 mounted albumen photographs, two folding maps and ten plates. 8vo., 232 x 145 mm, bound in publisher's grey wrappers preserved in a new cloth folding box. New York: Evening Steam Post Presses, 1870.
A fine copy of the last of the thirteen original Reports issued on Central Park. The later ones are extremely desirable for the photographic illustrations which provide unique early views of the Park. The photographer is identified as Rockwood, presumably George Rockwood. The photographs depict A view of the Mall, The Cascade, Berceau Walk, the Camel, the Elephant, Boy's playground (showing boys playing baseball), Goat Carriage, Group in Stone, Statue of Columbus, and Bust of Humboldt.
The Report also contains two extremely large folding maps, whose survival is a small miracle. All these early reports on Central Park are extremely rare, and provide an essential record of one of the world's most important public parks. Wrappers slightly chipped, otherwise fine.
