An important document in the history of parks in general, but in particular to the development of parks in the New York metropolitan area. There is discussion of all the various aspects of parks from access to economics. Also chapters discuss parks in various American cities, namely Chicago, Washington, Boston, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Buffalo, Baltimore, San Francisco and Savannah. Then Europe and Japan, focusing on London, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Dublin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Tokyo. There are several illustrations each of Van Cortland Park, The Bronx Park, St. Mary's Park and Crotona Park.
