BRAQUE, Georges. Le Piège de Méduse. By Eric Satie. [32] pp. With three woodcuts printed in colour by Braque. Folio, 330 x 235 mm, bound in full morocco binding by Nathalie Berjon. Paris: Editions de la Galerie Simon (Daniel Henry Kahnweiler), 1921.
This scarce work contains Braque's first original book illustrations. As is typical of Kahnweiler's books, it combines the work of two of the leading figures in the Parisian art world of the time, the artist Braque and the composer Satie. The play is a Dada work, and the woodcuts are Cubist, but the book works well as a whole, and it has become one of the key monuments of early twentieth-century book illustration. One of 90 copies on Holland of a total edition of 112. Signed by Braque and Eric Satie.
