A most curious album of mid nineteenth-century American trade cards printed on the versos of steel-engraved plates by W.H. Bartlett which must have been remaindered from the popular series of books illustrated with world views by Bartlett. An index at the front of the volume lists all the American companies included in the advertisements by the merchandise they produce: Apothecaries and Druggists, Book-Binders, Carpetings, China Ware, Cut and Stained Glass, Daguerreotype Miniatures, Engravers, Fur Dealers, Harnesses, Hotels, Ink, Jewelry & Silver Ware, Lamps & Gas Fixtures, Locks, Maps, Music and Musical Instruments, Piano Fortes, Printers, School Furniture, Spices, Window Shades, etc.
For Example: under J. Camblin & Co. Manufacturers of Cut and Stained Glass, they state in their ad: "Have constantly on hand, Solar Globes, and Shades of every description, Chandeliers, Pendants, Brackets, Gas Fixtures of the latest styles and patterns. Solar, fluid and Camphene lamps, Hall Lanterns, with stained and cut glass, Stained ground and cut glass for Churches, Steamboats, Hotels, Hall and Parlour Doors, Dome lights, &c". The book remains in its original publisher's deluxe binding, and is complete as issued. Rebacked with original spine laid down.
