Frizot, Michel (essay), Martine Franck (foreword), and Agnes Sire (introduction). HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON: Scrapbook. Photographs 1932-1946. 264 pp., 346 b&w illustrations. Large 4to, leatherette. London and New York , Thames & Hudson, in association with Paris, Fondation HCB, 2007.
In 1940, Cartier-Bresson was captured by the Germans, and in 1943 managed to escape. During this time, the Museum of Modern Art was preparing an exhibition, and when the photographer reappeared, he decided to curate it himself. He created a scrapbook to bring to the museum, putting his best work in chronological order. This scrapbook has been reassembled match the original; it includes correspondence and historical documents.
