"The magnificent pearls, with their orient nacre, were saved for queens and emperors. Entire villages holding their breath: how many diver's lives lost in the oyster beds for a royal crown?" The poems by Fainlight are a perfect compliment to Rothchild's characteristically black-velvet mezzotints, infused with sexual overtones of elegance and luxury, offering the perfect medium for the mysteriously creative cradle of the pearl. As new.
