This volume examines 20 fresco cycles from the early Renaissance including those of Masaccio and Masolino in the Brancacci chapel, Piero dell Francesca's at Arezzo as well as other, lesser-known works. Divided into two sections, this book covers both the historical and technical aspects of fresco painting in this period and it contains an essay on each of the fresco cycles reproduced herein. This is the first study to offer a comparative overview of fresco painting in Quattrocento italy.
