ELUARD,Paul / ERNST

ERNST
, Max. Les Malheurs des Immortels. By Paul Eluard and Max Ernst. Illustrated with collages by Max Ernst. 4to., original wrappers in a new cloth box. Paris: Libraire Six, 1922.

This is Ernst's second collaboration with Eluard and his second use of collage in a book (following Repetitions). In the present work, the text is a collaboration between Ernst and Eluard, while in Repetitions the text was Eluard's alone. As a testimony to its significance, this work has been reissued several times, most notably by the Black Sun Press. This is an unusually fine copy of a rare book; with minimal soiling to the fragile white wrappers. The limitation, although unspecified, must have been very small.

MAX ERNST
Spies, Werner / Drost, Julia

This study by a noted authority on Ernst and the surrealist movement, is a compelling portrait of the artists's life and an intellectual portrait of the period. Drawn from a previously unavailable collection of source material (letters, photographs, poetry, and diaries) which are published here for the first time, the book provides fresh insight into the reception of Ernst's oeuvre and shed light on his biography.
