English edition was "American Orientalists". The volume is devoted to the works of American artists who, between 1843 and 1922, travelled to and took inspiration from the Orient and North Africa. Best known among these painters are Edwin Lord Weeks and Frederick Bridgman, but this survey also highlights the Oriental influence in the works of Samuel Colman, Swain Gifford, Ernest Wadsworth Longfellow, among others.
